The Thinker

The new and improved dahl.com is a little bit more than a week old and we’d appreciate your feedback on what we can do to make it more useful and entertaining to you. We’ve been trying to post the videos that are referred to in specific podcasts on the carousel at the top of the page, but I’m not sure how effective that is based on the fact that everybody is listening to the DahlCast on there own time frame. Maybe we should just put them up every day in the video section, and you can check them out when you get to the proper episode. There are still some adjustments that I’m making to the podcast concept, and sometimes I forget that your need to know something or your response wont be instantaneous. That’s not to say that the response hasn’t been incredible, because it has.

I saw Chef Hans at the Blackhawks game on Monday night and he told me that business at Trader Vic’s (I’m an owner) is really picking up. He says that Monday and Tuesday nights are still a little slow, and he wants me to start coming on Tuesday night and playing my guitar and singing. I’m not sure how comfortable I am with that idea, but maybe it’s worth a try. Let me think about that today, and maybe I’ll have an announcement about that tomorrow. My Producer, Mary wants me to have 55 people over to the house during the DahlCast recording for my 55th birthday on November 20th. I countered with a Friday night birthday party at Trader Vic’s. We could record it for three hours and play it back the first three days of Thanksgiving week. Maybe we can compromise and have five people and a midget over to the house next Friday (5 and .5).

I am very comfortable just being in my basement and having my staff come to me each day, sort of makes me feel like royalty. The idea of a three-hour remote at Trader Vic’s a week from Friday is causing me to agoraphobia-like symptoms, but so is the thought of being a trader Vic’s wandering minstrel. The 55 people over to the house seems like a territorial and logistical nightmare. You would all have to be blindfolded and driven here on a charter bus with loud music blaring and flashing lights disorienting you. My secret location must remain a secret. Either that, or you could get a job working for Peapod, and somehow get yourself assigned to a delivery at my house. Don’t let the dogs scare you. They are all bark and no bite. That pretty much describes me at my advanced age of 55 as well.

I like the idea of you doing

I like the idea of you doing three hours at Trader Vic's and then using them as a Dahlcast for Thanksgiving week.  Gives you the week off and us new material.  It's a win-win.

Hi Steve. I love the new

Hi Steve. I love the new site.  Updating it finally made it work on my work computer.  I don't have any suggestions to make it better.  And I agree that recording a few hours of your birthday and playing it the week of Thanksgiving is a great idea.  Love you.  Jennifer

One thing I have seen used

One thing I have seen used pretty well is have a more extensive version of the show notes. So instead of just having Jim kid type what you are saying verbatim he could instead find links to all the great topics during a show and from there line the show notes with links, and If you want to whore out clicks on your site instead of sending everyone to youtube or where ever you can embed the video on Dahl.com and then have the link in the show notes go to the video on your site instead of youtube.

Also it used to be easier to click into the blog, now i have to specifically click the read more link down at the bottom of the blog section on the home page. Having the name of the blog entry bring you directly to that story and the words "Steve's Blog" bring you to the blog in general would be perfect.

Regarding website; I have no complaints - as long as i can read the blog and download the podcast I'm good to go. The site is quite slick though - nice work Ed!

Regarding your Birthday; have it at Trader Vics, the first 55 listeners who show up get free entry and a chance to spend 1 minute each on the air with you - good way to eat up 1 hour -and would make for great listening. or not.

I voted for the 55 people at

I voted for the 55 people at your house but I really think the three hour live DahlCast from Trader Vic's is the way to go.

Years of voting mostly Democratic have rubbed off on me. They generally take one side of an issue and then vote for something else...

By the way, I am digging the new website. Good work, ESPO1.

Hi Steve,

I think the ease of navigation around the new site is great!  The Dahlcasts sound awesome.  I think the show at Trader Vic's would be pretty cool.  Thanks for making the effort to keep us fans entertained.

Hey Steve! I already know

Hey Steve!

I already know where you live - can I be one of the 55?   Loving the podcasts and the new website!  And I'm glad people stopped complaining about the cost of the iphone app - I just bought a new car so that I could hook up my ipod and listen thru my radio - just like old times.  An hour is perfect - 1/2 hour to work, 1/2 hour home.

Love you, Anne

Thanks for all of the good

Thanks for all of the good comments, guys (and girls). I'm leaning towards the Trader Vic's birthday scenario, but we'll talk more about it on Wednesday.SD

Nice site. And Drupal kicks

Nice site. And Drupal kicks ass! I'm glad to see you using it.

If it makes you feel better Steve, it was a visit to the site that got me listening to you for the first time in 15 years. I'm in the armpit of the midwest, Indianapolis, and I don't even listen to radio down here. Seriously, the Land of Bob and Tom is hell for someone who grew up with you.

The podcasts are now a habit for me. Good stuff.
