Pizza and Baseball

Janet went to see ‘Jersey Boys’ today with her girlfriends. I must admit, that I kind of wanted to see that musical and maybe I’ll drop in on it before it leaves town early next year. I am a closeted theater lover, especially musicals. I have been watching ‘Mama Mia’ on cable all month long. Not over and over, or anything like that, but whenever I join it in progress, I watch it until I fall asleep. I find it to be very relaxing. I once stayed in the suite at the Omni Hotel in NYC where Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote ‘Oklahoma’ (or Oklahomo as I sometimes refer to it). I must admit, that I thought that it was cool to be in the same room. God only knows what else hey did in there, but I remained celibate. I only know that they wrote it there because there’s a brass plate on the wall commemorating that very thing.
It was the time that I was in NYC, it was right after 9-11 and I had an opportunity to see the World Series. It was Mark Grace and the Diamondbacks against the Yankees. I didn’t actually go to any of the games, and I am kicking myself for it even as I write this. Not that I cared about the games, but my grandfather used to love going to Yankee Stadium and I owed it to him to visit The House that Ruth Built. I never did, and of course it no longer exists, so I’ll never get the chance. My grandfather was also a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, but turned on them once they moved to LA, even though he also moved to LA at about the same time. He was a Yankees fan first and foremost, and carried a “Murderer’s Row” lineup card in his wallet until the day he died. I do have that card at least.
I’m actually watching the World Series as I type this. Two former Cy Young Award winning Cleveland Indians pitchers are going at it. If I were and Indians fan, that would piss me off. Since Janet is having dinner with her friends I am having a delicious pizza in my newly painted family room. The pizza (SMOP well done) was excellent and I washed it down with a caffeine free Coke. I have found that laying off of the caffeine after sundown makes it a lot easier for me to fall asleep at night. Go figure! If you’ve never ordered your pizza well done, you’ve got to try it. It’s always nice and brown and bubbly on top. Chase Utley just homered against the Yankees. He’s from my hometown, Pasadena, CA. A big shout out to the CA, from the IL.
