Don't Haiti The Player

I am thinking that Jamaica advertising on CNN during the Haitian earthquake aftermath is either pure folly, or pure genius. Either way, they seem to be running a lot of commercials. I think that the Jamaicans are advertising to get vacationers who are afraid to go to the Dominican Republic. I feel really bad for the people of Haiti, but other than donating to the Red Cross I’m really not sure what to do. I could take on a Haitian housekeeper while I’m down here in Florida, but I’ll probably have to send her back when I head back up north after winter is over. I would like it if she had some good conch recipes (especially fritters) and I can promise her a safe dwelling (built in the 60s) that has withstood many tropical storms. Janet is not going to let me have a Haitian housekeeper up north even if she’s not attractive. Ultimately, there is no good outcome for my Haitian housekeeper, just as I fear that ultimately, there is no good outcome for the good people of Haiti. Especially after Anderson Cooper leaves the country, and our attention is drawn elsewhere.

Considering the short

Considering the short attention span we have as a nation, except when it comes to celebrities and their foibles, I'm surprised we even still care about the devastion in Haiti and the suffering of the people there. I am thankful to CNN and all the other news agencies and organizations for keeping this story front and center.

As for the Haitan housekeeper...I think you should hire one and bring her back north with you in March. Janet strikes me as a reasonable woman; surely she can see the humanitarian reasons behind you doing this.

Enjoy your stay in Florida, Steve, and keep the podcasts coming!
