About
After 30 plus years on traditional radio, The Steve Dahl Show transformed into the Steve DahlCast and hit the podcast scene on September 8th, 2009. He has assembled much of his original crew; Brendan, Ed, Jim, Mary, Pete and Stephanie and they all meet in his basement every day and record the show.
In Steve’s 30 plus year career he has taken the show and a cabal of listeners to an array of exotic locations (Playa Paraiso, Cabo San Lucas, Maui and Las Vegas). Steve has done the show from an RV traveling the country (via Route 66), from a hospital room during his vasectomy and from a zillion locations in and around Chicago.
Steve swings with a hip crowd, which keeps the show peppered with interesting folk. Regulars include Trader Vic’s very own Chef Hans, Bears legend Tom Thayer, WBBM Bears analyst Jeff Joniak, veteran Sox radio announcer Ed Farmer and Bulls play-by-play announcer Neil Funk.
Guests over the years have included: Jeff Garlin, Bob Odenkirk, Harry Shearer, John Belushi, Dennis Miller, Al Franken, Eric Idle, Penn Jillette, Albert Brooks, Pete Townshend, Richard Lewis, Kevin James, Michael Chikllis, Jamie Kennedy, Studs Terkel... to name a few.
Because Steve is still in the know musically speaking (he’s not that old), musical guests are sprinkled on the show throughout the year. Most recent in-studio guests include Tony Joe White, Jimmy Buffett, Joe Walsh, Shawn Mullins, The Drive-By-Truckers, The Format and The Nadas.
Steve celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Disco Demolition in 2009, the infamous promotion gone awry that made its way into both Chicago and baseball history, and declared Steve Dahl a force to be reckoned with. A 25th anniversary DVD documentary of the event is available at dahl.com. Espn’s Jeremy Shaap featured the 30th anniversary here….
Steve's many parody songs and classic bits were part of growing up in Chicagoland in the 80s and 90s. From Ayatolla to Oh Wally to Vasectomy, Steve's original compositions capture moments in Chicago history with his usual, candid eye.
Dahl fans enjoy his "every guy" approach to life in Chicago, his many impressions (most recently, Ben Gay, the sports reporter and Tyrone, the traffic reporter), his willingness to explore and expose new music and his general take on life through a comic prism.
